The Ausangate 15 Day Trek
Road to the Ausangate Trek
Arrival in Cusco and Spiritual Beginnings
Upon arrival in Cusco, we begin our journey with a visit to Qorikancha, one of the most important temples from the Tawantinsuyo era. Dedicated to the Father Sun, this sacred site offers insight into the Inca civilization’s deep spiritual connection with the cosmos and the natural world.
Cultural Immersion on Lake Titicaca
We then continue to Lake Titicaca, where we meet the Uros people, who live on floating reed islands. Their millennia-old culture remains vibrant and well-preserved. With guidance from our expert local guide, we learn about their daily life and ancestral customs. In the following days, we also visit nearby island communities, allowing us to compare and appreciate the diversity of cultural expressions in this unique region.
The Trek Begins: Mountains, Passes, and Living Traditions
The journey truly begins as we start the Ausangate Trek, a six-day expedition through one of the most stunning landscapes in the Peruvian Andes. We are rewarded with panoramic views of Ausangate, which rises to nearly 6,400 meters above sea level. As we trek through high mountain passes such as Alkatani (4,700 m), we pass by crystal-clear glacial lakes and remote Andean villages.
More than just a physical challenge, this trek offers a genuine connection to Andean culture. Along the way, we witness local traditions, colorful attire, and agricultural practices that reflect a lifestyle deeply rooted in the rhythms of nature and the ancestral wisdom of the highlands.
