The 14 Day Inca Trail Trip

Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime 14-day journey through Peru, where you’ll explore its most breathtaking landscapes while immersing yourself in its rich cultural heritage. You’ll begin in Lima, discovering the capital’s colonial charm, and then continue to Paracas and the stunning Ballestas Islands. After that, witness the mysterious Nazca Lines from above, before heading south to Arequipa, the White City, where you’ll marvel at the breathtaking Colca Canyon.

As you continue, your adventure takes you to Lake Titicaca, where you’ll experience the unique floating islands of Uros as well as the vibrant culture of Puno. From there, you’ll arrive in Cusco, the heart of the Inca Empire, to explore its ancient streets and lively traditions. Soon after, you’ll set off on the legendary Inka Trail — an iconic trek that leads you through dramatic Andean landscapes, ancient ruins, and misty cloud forests, ultimately culminating in the awe-inspiring wonder of Machu Picchu.

Arrival in Lima - Welcome to Peru!

Upon arriving in Lima, we transfer to our hotel in the vibrant Miraflores district by the sea. After settling in, relax and enjoy your first evening in Peru.

Discover Paracas – National Park Adventure

After breakfast, we journey to the stunning Paracas Peninsula. There, we explore the Paracas National Reserve and its fascinating museum, learning about the region’s unique ecosystem and history.

Day 03 :

Ballestas Islands and Nazca – Wildlife, Vineyards, and Desert Oasis

We begin the day with a scenic boat ride to the Ballestas Islands, home to sea lions, Humboldt penguins, and many seabirds. Then, we visit a renowned Peruvian vineyard near Ica, followed by lunch at the beautiful Huacachina desert oasis. Finally, we continue to Nazca.

Nazca Pyramids and Flight Over Nazca Lines – Ancient Mysteries Unveiled

In the morning, explore the sacred Cahuachi Pyramids, one of the most important ceremonial centers of the Nazca culture. Later in the day, enjoy a thrilling flight over the enigmatic Nazca Lines for a bird’s-eye view of these mysterious geoglyphs.

From Nazca to Arequipa – Monastery and Andean Charm

Today we drive through the scenic Andes toward Arequipa. Upon arrival, we visit the famed Santa Catalina Monastery and enjoy the colonial elegance of the "White City."

Explore Lake Titicaca – Uros Floating Islands Experience

We depart early for Lake Titicaca, stopping along the way to admire Andean landscapes and wildlife. In the afternoon, explore the unique Uros floating islands and immerse yourself in the ancient traditions of their inhabitants.

From Puno to Cusco – Journey Through Andean History

We travel from Puno to Cusco, with enriching stops including the Pukara Museum, La Raya Pass at 4,300 meters, and the impressive Inca ruins of Raqchi. After lunch near Sicuani, we continue toward Cusco, arriving in the afternoon.

Today is yours to enjoy. Explore Cusco at your own pace: visit colorful markets, stroll its historic streets, or simply relax and absorb the charm of this iconic Andean city.

We begin our trek at Km 82. As we hike, we pass through beautiful scenery and archaeological sites such as Llaqtapata. The day includes 11 km of trekking over approximately 6 hours, ending at our campsite in Wayllapampa (2,800 m).

Inca Trail Day 2 – Conquering Dead Woman’s Pass (Warmi Wañuska)

After breakfast, we tackle the most challenging day of the trail, ascending to Warmi Wañuska (4,200 m). Along the way, we pass through Polylepis forests and may spot Andean deer. Today’s hike covers approximately 15 km.

Inca Trail Day 3 – Archaeological Wonders and Mountain Views

Today’s adventure begins with a visit to Runku Rakay, followed by a climb to the second mountain pass (3,970 m). Then, we explore the mystical ruins of Sayaqmarka before descending to our campsite at Phuyupatamarka (3,750 m).

Inca Trail Day 4 – The Sun Gate and First Glimpse of Machu Picchu

We rise early to reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) before sunrise. From there, enjoy your first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu. On the way, visit Wiñay Wayna and Phuyupatamarka. After a guided tour of the citadel, you’ll have free time to explore on your own. Optional visit to the hot springs in Aguas Calientes.

Machu Picchu – Sunrise and Exploration

Start your day with a second visit to Machu Picchu. Optionally, hike up Machu Picchu Mountain for panoramic views. After lunch, we return to Cusco by train, closing this magical experience.

What is the hardest day of the Inca Trail

Day 2 is generally considered the hardest day of the Inca Trail. Specifically, this day involves a steep ascent to Dead Woman’s Pass at 4 215 m (13 828 ft), which is the highest point of the trek. Because you climb continuously for several hours at high altitude, many trekkers find this segment the most challenging.

Can I hike the Inca Trail without a guide

No. Since 2001, it has been mandatory to hike the Inca Trail with a licensed tour operator. How fit do you have to be to do de Inca Trail

You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but a moderate level of fitness is essential. Since you’ll be hiking for four consecutive days often at high altitude with steep ascents and descents, we recommend doing cardiovascular training and multi-hour practice hikes beforehand. This preparation will help you tackle each day more comfortably.

Is the Inca Trail harder than climbing Mount Kilimanjaro?

While both treks are challenging, Kilimanjaro is generally considered more difficult due to its higher summit (5 895 m / 19,340 ft) and longer overall duration. In contrast, the Inca Trail’s maximum elevation is 4 215 m / 13828 and the route is strictly regulated, which makes it shorter and more structured. Nevertheless, the Inca Trail still demands good physical condition and proper acclimatization.

Where do you sleep on the Inca Trail

During the Inca Trail trek, you sleep at designated campsites that are managed by the Peruvian government. These sites are strategically placed along the trail and offer basic but safe and scenic rest areas.
